Cynthia Young

Cynthia Young received her training with the San Francisco Ballet and at the University of Utah. Joining Ballet West at the age of 15 she became the youngest principal dancer with a major American ballet company. Ms. Young worked with Willam, Harold and Lew Christensen, Jacques D’Amboise, Bill Evans and John Butler to name a few. During the course of her career Ms Young performed leading roles in a diversified repertory, from the classics of Giselle to contemporary ballets such as Carmina Burana.

Arriving in Los Angeles, Ms. Young created the young professional division for Le Studio in 1981. In 1995 the Board of Directors of Pasadena Dance Theatre moved the company into a new facility and selected Ms Young to direct the non-profit training program and performing Company. The Company and school continue to be recognized for the high artistic quality, and professionalism.

Ms. Young has taught master classes throughout the United states and received numerous honors and awards including the National Choreography Plan Award in 1991 and 1995.

Ms. Young has been a faculty member at the California Institute of the Arts since 1996 where she is currently Associate Dean in the School of Dance. In addition Ms. Young has been chair for the Dance School for the California Summer School of the Arts for the past 11 years.
